Good News carollers raise €950,000 for Sub-Saharan Africa

The annual 'Good News' project involving children singing carols in households across Slovakia at Christmas time this year raised more than €950,000 for development projects in Kenya, South Sudan, Ethiopia and Uganda, Good News coordinator Anna Paľovová told TASR on Tuesday. "We thank all the participating children for their commitment and our families for their generosity ... Good News also helps our children to familiarise themselves with the lives of their peers in developing countries, while doing something for them, too. I'm proud of this in our work", said Good News director Marián Čaučík. Good News' carolling this past Christmas took place under the motto "Water Is Life", highlighting the "prime importance of water for human life, as pointed out by Pope Francis in the encyclical Laudatio Si", said Paľovová, adding that the raised money will be used for projects ensuring access to clean potable water in Sub-Saharan Africa. The initiative involved almost 25,000 carollers who visited 72,500 families in 1,235 Slovak towns and villages from December 24-January 6.
