Ukraine issue more pressing than migration, says Foreign Minister

Migration was not the most difficult topic of the four-year term in office for the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Miroslav Lajčák. "Ukraine was very urgent and sensitive because it directly affects us in Slovakia", said the minister while reflecting in an interview on the past four years as head of Slovak diplomacy. "Migration to Europe is a big issue, but from the perspective of Slovakia, the issue of Ukraine is not smaller. It greatly concerns us; it's our neighbouring country", emphasised the Foreign Minister. He admitted, however, that the attention of the media and society on the one issue will not hold for long. "But the task of politicians is not to pursue what is on the front page of the newspaper; rather to do their job consistently even after the camera has moved on to something else", said Lajčák.
