Police Fire 26 Shots at Austrian Motorist

The case is still under investigation for a 47 year old Austrian man whom refused to stop for Slovak police on Monday after midnight. Police announced that an Austrian registered BMW was seen weaving lanes at high speed near the western Slovak town of Malacky, with the driver of the vehicle ignoring the lights & siren of the Slovak police pursuit vehicle.

An officer in a patrol car managed to force the BMW to a halt whereby the officer leapt out, opened the passenger door, and demanded the driver stop his vehicle. The driver reportedly reversed, knocking the officer down, and attempted to escape again. At this point the officer fired three warning shots in the air, then seven towards the rear tyres. The driver continued, later attempting to enter the motorway near Devínska Nová Ves, where police patrols were waiting. The officers fired a further nineteen shots, all aimed at the rear tyres. One tyre had been successfully shot out, however the driver continued, being forced to a halt by more police patrols, whereby he reportedly refused to leave his vehicle, and was removed by force. A police investigation is still underway.
