PM Fico: If Turkish-Greek Border Fails to Halt Migrants, 'Plan B' Is Needed

If the Turkish-Greek border fails in halting the wave of migrants, a plan B must be employed, consisting in boosting the protection of the Bulgarian and Macedonian borders, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said after the V4 summit on migration in Prague on Monday. Slovakia would then be ready to contribute 300 police officers towards the 'plan B', but it wants the solution to involve the entire EU, Fico said. He further said that he hopes the V4 becomes an "engine" at the EU summit on migration later this week in Brussels. "Many European politicians are lacking a sense of reality," said Fico, rejecting accusations levelled by some European politicians against the V4 concerning its alleged lack of solidarity. He stressed that the central European countries - Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary - may have a different opinion on the mandatory quotas, but they're ready to provide personnel and money to deal with the crisis.
