Some university lecturers went on strike on Monday, taking over for the Slovak Teachers Initiative (ISU), which interrupted its strike on the same day while remaining on strike alert. According to Juraj Halas from the Initiative of university lecturers (IVU), which is organising the strike, lecturers from 15 Slovak universities have joined the strike. Education, Science, Research and Sport Minister Juraj Draxler considers the strike to be a symbolic gesture by individuals. Draxler aligned himself with the Slovak Rectors Conference (SRK), which stated previously that the activities of the University Lecturers Initiative (IVU) are the lecturers' personal initiative. Despite the strike, universities won't be closed down. The staff on strike will organise discussions, cultural events and meetings.
