Thursday special session in Parliament on teachers and nurses

Parliament is convening for a special parliamentary session at the request of opposition MPs. On the agenda are two points - the situation of nurses and teachers. Thousands of teachers protested and went on strike to achieve salary hikes, nurses also protested for improved salaries for their profession as well as for improved conditions in the health care sector as such. Opposition MPs suggest Parliament pass two documents - one that would help solve the crisis situation in the education sector and achieve its long-term improvement, the other that would assess the debt in the health care sector and ways to eliminate it. The Parliament's Education, Youth, Science and Sports Committee and Health Care Committee declined the two proposals. The suggestions did not pass as only the members of the opposition voted for them. However the result of the committee's vote served only as recommendation for the Parliament. The session is supposed to go on after 7pm on Thursday, after which presumably the vote on the matter will take place as well. Many teachers and nurses have gathered at the Parliament balcony to watch the debate.
