Since the very beginning, 2016 has proven to be a very challenging year in international affairs. The cold winter did not deter migrants to continue to risk their lives for better ones in Western Europe. European economies are not growing fast enough to create jobs that are not short term; heavily subsidized and paying low salaries. China is also slowing down and the US is in the middle of a noisy presidential campaign. Slovakia's northern neighbour Poland has welcomed in a Government seemingly in love with power consolidation via questionable practices. Amidst all these happenings, Slovakia will take the rotating presidency of the EU in July for half a year. And this will be on the table of its new Government resulting from the March 5th general elections. A tough job indeed as foreign policy analyst Pavol Demeš says.
A challenging year for Slovak diplomacy
