Last week the Parliament decided that churches in Slovakia will continue to be funded from the state budget - thus rejecting the proposal of four liberal MPs that each citizen should decide by themselves whether they want to allocate part of their annual taxes - up to 2 percent - to registered religious organisations. But how important are churches in the daily life of Slovaks and how come almost all Slovak politicians, including those not known to be churchgoers, have become defenders of Christianity lately?
