Consumer prices in Slovakia rose 4.4% year-on-year in July, the highest inflation in 19 months, up from 4.3% in June, according to the Statistics Office. All 12 categories saw price growth, from 1.5% in transport to 10% in education. Food prices rose 3.1%, with sharp hikes for oils and fats (+14.6%) and dairy, eggs, and fruit (over 10%), while meat (-1.6%) and vegetables (-3.7%) became cheaper.
Non-alcoholic drinks jumped 19.2%, driven by mineral waters, juices (+18.3%), and coffee, tea, and cocoa, which hit a record high (+20.5%). Alcoholic beverages and tobacco rose 6.7%, with wine up 16%. Restaurants and hotels were 9.5% more expensive, and housing-related costs increased 2.7%.
