Slovakia’s labour market continued to cool down in June, with the biggest monthly rise in unemployment since April 2021, according to Michal Doliak, a macroeconomic analyst at the National Bank of Slovakia (NBS). The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose slightly to 5.9%, with 518 more people out of work. The largest increases were recorded in the districts of Prešov, Žilina, and Bratislava.
Doliak noted that, as in May, the figures were boosted by a higher number of university graduates entering the labour market compared to last year. A weakening inflow of foreign workers and a drop in the number of unemployed people finding jobs also signal a slowdown. The net inflow of foreign labour in June was the lowest in five months.
