Inflation hits 4.3% in June, highest in 18 Months

Annual inflation in Slovakia rose to 4.3 percent in June, marking the highest level since December 2023, the Statistics Office reported on Tuesday. On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased by 0.2 percent.

The rise was mainly driven by higher prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages, which climbed 4.2 percent year-on-year—the sharpest increase so far this year. In contrast, lower prices for fuel, motor vehicles, and telecommunications equipment helped ease the overall monthly growth.

Prices went up across all 12 monitored sectors. The steepest hikes—around 10 percent—were seen in education (10 %), catering services (10 %), and the broader restaurants and hotels sector (9.5 %). Miscellaneous goods and services also saw a significant rise (6.2 %).

Other notable increases—of around 5 percent—were recorded in alcoholic beverages and tobacco (5.3 %), accommodation (5 %), and cultural services (4.9 %).

Core inflation reached 3.5 percent year-on-year, while net inflation stood at 3.1 percent.
