Prime Minister Robert Fico’s (Smer-SD) cabinet will hold an extraordinary session on Friday to address the state of Slovakia’s automotive industry and related government support measures. Ministers have invited representatives from major car manufacturers operating in Slovakia, as well as automotive component suppliers.
The automotive sector is Slovakia’s largest industry, constituting 13% of GDP, with manufacturing contributing to a quarter of all jobs in the economy.
The agenda also includes approving a proposal to develop a vision and strategy for Slovakia’s development until 2040, a draft law on consumer protection in online financial services, as well as a proposal to approve the presence of foreign armed forces on Slovak territory and the deployment of Slovak Armed Forces abroad for military exercises.
