The Slovak Parliament has approved a government proposal to provide financial support to companies impacted by new U.S. tariffs. Employees in affected firms will be eligible for state assistance through the Kurzarbeit (short-time work) scheme, which helps preserve jobs during economic disruptions.
The support applies to businesses facing decreased demand or production due to the newly announced U.S. customs duties. Affected employers will be able to reduce employees’ working hours while the state covers part of their wages.
According to Labour Minister Erik Tomáš, the aim is to protect employment and prevent layoffs in industries that may suffer under the new trade restrictions. The measure is part of a broader strategy to shield Slovakia’s economy from external shocks.
The law will come into effect once officially published in the Collection of Laws.
