Slovakia’s Tripartite Council (representatives of the government, employers, and trade unions) has called for a unified EU response to U.S. tariffs, with Labour Minister Erik Tomáš advocating for sector-specific support and trade diversification. Following a meeting of the Economic and Social Council, Tomáš proposed measures such as short-time work schemes and a vehicle scrappage program.
Stakeholders, including the Confederation of Trade Unions, backed a common European strategy. The Slovak Automotive Industry Association warned that losing 20,000 vehicle exports to the U.S. could cost €1.1 billion and threaten 15,000 jobs, urging stronger EU competitiveness.
