Slovakia is allocating 2% of its GDP to defence and is open to discussions on increasing this amount, but reaching a domestic political consensus remains a priority. This was stated by Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár after the NATO ministerial meeting in Brussels. The talks also addressed the possibility of raising defence spending to 5% of GDP. However, he emphasized the need to assess financial capabilities and the defence industry's capacity, noting that any increase would likely be gradual. Another key topic was the peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine. Blanár expressed support for the new U.S. administration’s peace initiative and welcomed the United States’ strong commitment to NATO.
