Slovakia introduces new financial transaction tax

Slovakia introduces new financial transaction tax

Starting Tuesday, April 1, legal entities and individual entrepreneurs in Slovakia will pay a new financial transaction tax. The tax rate is set at 0.4% of the transaction amount, with a maximum limit of 40 EUR, while cash withdrawals will be taxed at 0.8%. The measure aims to generate approximately 700 million EUR annually for the national budget. The tax will not apply to transactions related to taxes or health insurance payments, nor to payments made within the same provider. Non-profit organizations and certain public institutions will be exempt from the tax, including entities in culture, science, tourism, and health sectors. The law also standardizes the tax calculation for domestic and international transactions.
