Public finances consolidation of €2.4 billion

Slovakia will have to consolidate its public finances next year to the tune of €2.3-2.4 billion, while initially it was supposed to be only €600-800 million, Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) said on TA3's discussion programme 'V politike' on Sunday, adding that options to reduce the deficit in the state budget include an audit of the number of state and public administration officials needed, as well as targeted energy aid and investment. He indicated that the government should address the parameter of the optimal number of civil servants per 1,000 inhabitants as part of the consolidation, but admitted that it's a complicated issue.
