Slovakia to cooperate with Netherlands during Presidency

Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčák and his Dutch counterpart Bert Koenders signed a bilateral agreement on cooperation during the Slovak Presidency of the EU Council on Thursday. Starting July 1, Slovakia will take over the presidency after the Netherlands. "As the network of our diplomatic missions isn't identical, in some countries Dutch diplomats will continue to carry out presidency duties on our behalf, and, vice-versa," explained Miroslav Lajčák. Dutch specialists will assist Slovakia in certain international environmental issues (featuring seas and oceans) and internal and external fishery policies. In May, Slovakia inked a similar agreement with Malta, which is set to take over the Presidency from Slovakia as of January 2017.
