Last week the consulting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers and the Slovak Automotive Industry Association released the results of a survey done among subcontractors and suppliers doing business in Slovakia. Last year the three car makers with factories in this country, VW, Kia Motors and PSA Peugeot Citroen produced a record 1 million 38 thousand cars covering 40% of Slovakia's exports. Together with their subcontractors and suppliers they employ about 126, 000 people. In fact they could hire even more if they could find enough qualified people, as 87% of suppliers complain that this is a tricky business and 37% of them add that the situation is so bad that they worry they will not be able to take in new contracts because of a shortage of the necessary labour force. Anca Dragu discussed all these with Jens Hörning, the Head of the Automotive Sector in Central and Eastern Europe at PwC.
