January 20, Slovak National Theatre hosted a press conference presenting the premiere of the Mozart's opera Così fan tutte. On this occasion, the Austrian conductor Friedrich Haider announced that he will step down from the post of the music director of the Slovak opera house at the end of the 2015/2016 season, i.e. in June this year. The renowned conductor has been working for the Slovak National Theater since 2010 when he brought on stage The Magic Flute by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. In 2012, he became the head of this theatre's opera. As he now explained, he cannot bring the ensemble to international level without the budget on an international level. RSI has so far failed in gaining the statement of the Culture Ministry which is the founder of the Slovak National Theatre.
