Folklorist Ján Lazorík Died

One of Slovakia's most highly appreciated folklorists Ján Lazorík died at the age of 94. Renowned for his never-ending effort to preserve the authenticity of the northern Slovak regions of Šariš and Spiš, he became the symbol of a fierce fighter against the unhuman process of globalisation. Apart from writing books, collecting authentic stories, fairy tales or even recipes, he also set up a folklore group in the village of Krivany. Ján Lazorík, a promoter of north eastern dialects, saved hundreds of items of authentic folk culture not only for museums but also for the Slovak Academy of Sciences.
