David Short Honoured for Championing Slovak Literature Abroad

Since 1972, the P. O. Hviezdoslav Prize has recognised translations of Slovak literature and contributions to promoting it abroad. Presented annually by the Association of Writers’ Organisations of Slovakia (ASOS), the award goes to a foreign translator of an original Slovak work. This year’s laureate is David Short, a highly respected scholar of Czech and Slovak literature. As he could not come to Bratislava, Julia Sherwood was presented the award on his behalf.
