The Slovak project “Land of Readers” has been nominated for the 2027 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award.
Established by the Swedish government in 2002, the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award recognizes outstanding contributions to children’s and young adult literature. This year, 277 candidates from 80 countries and regions—including authors, illustrators, storytellers, and reading promoters—have been nominated.
“Land of Readers” is a Slovak project that helps adults, including teachers and parents, connect children and young people with books and foster a love of reading. The project champions simple yet effective ways to encourage reading, such as allowing children to choose their own books freely, minimizing pressure, and embracing a wide range of formats, including comics, graphic novels, and encyclopedias.
