The Gothic Route Association is a civic organisation founded in 2008 to protect, restore and promote medieval ecclesiastical architecture in the Gemer and Malohont regions of southern Slovakia. Its volunteers describe the area as “Central Europe in miniature”.
In 2022, lutheran churches in Koceľovce, Ochtiná, Štítnik, Kameňany, Kraskovo, Kyjatice, Rimavská Baňa and Rimavské Brezovo and Roman Catholic churches in Chyžné, Rákoš and Šivetice as well as in the church of the Reformed Church in Plešivec were awarded with European Heritage Label.
In order to share the latest research on the medieval period in Central Europe, the association began organising conferences exploring a range of topics. In 2026, the seventh conference focused on the past decade of the Gothic Route’s activities.
