BASS FEST+
From 30 September to 4 October, the International Music Festival BASS FEST+ is being held in Banská Bystrica and Lučenec. Masterclasses, concerts of classical, baroque, chamber and traditional music will be combined with events featuring Argentinian tango and the establishment of a new orchestra. Part of the festival is dedicated to the K. D. von Dittersdorf International Double Bass Competition.
Bábkarská Bystrica
The 25th edition of the Bábkarská Bystrica International Puppet Theatre Festival will take place in Banská Bystrica from October 1 to 4, marking the 10th anniversary of Slovak and Czech puppetry’s inscription on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
This year’s festival, subtitled “Mini,” will feature 14 performances, alongside a supporting programme and special events. The title reflects both the festival’s reduced scale, due to financial challenges facing the cultural sector, and its focus on the youngest audiences, particularly children under
"Since the festival did not receive funding from the Slovak Arts Council this year, we decided to provide increased financial support so that its story could continue," emphasized Chairman of the Banská Bystrica Self-Governing Region Ondrej Lunter.
A total of ten theatre companies from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland and France will present 14 performances during the four-day event.

Trenčín to Put Brutalism in the Spotlight
On October 9, Trenčín, a European Capital of Culture, will host the Brutal Symposium, an all-day interdisciplinary conference exploring the links between post-war architecture and contemporary approaches to urban development, public space and cultural heritage.
The event will showcase organisations, initiatives and individuals working to preserve buildings and sites that often go unnoticed. Discussions will focus on how to engage with the cultural heritage of modern architecture, as well as its preservation and adaptation. Admission is free.
Guest speakers include Professor Tim Rieniets, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs at Leibniz University Hannover; Tom Schoonjans, a Belgian architect and project manager with the Brussels-based collective Rotor; and Vladimír 518, a prominent figure in Czech hip-hop, subculture and visual arts.
The symposium is organised by Trenčín-based civic association Projekt HLAVA 5. It is part of Citlivo o brutalizme (Sensitive Perspectives on Brutalism), a project included in the Trenčín 2026 – European Capital of Culture programme.
