World music takes over Bratislava
The Bratislava World Music Festival, named the best world music festival of 2025 by the Transglobal World Music Chart, opened on Thursday, 17 September, 2026. The festival brings together international and local artists, alongside an expert conference offering a space for professionals to meet and network. We’re inviting you to the 3 day festival with its co-founder and artistic director, Vladimír “Potkan” Potančok.

Trenčín Hosts a Festival of Stories
From 18 to 20 September, Trenčín is inviting audiences to spend an evening listening to stories from around the world. The international line-up includes Norwegian and South African-based storyteller Frank Malaba, Umi Sinha, founder of The GuestHouse Storytellers in East Sussex, Ugandan author Philippa Namutebi Kabali-Kagwa and multilingual storyteller María Serrano, among others.
Lucia Tallová’s “Moving Clouds” in Berlin
Slovak visual artist Lucia Tallová is presenting an extensive solo exhibition at Berlin’s Palais Populaire. Tallová is the second Slovak artist to receive Deutsche Bank’s Artist of the Year award, following Roman Ondák. Her Moving Clouds project explores ecology, suppressed female histories, modernity, loss and utopia, with a focus on the fragility of memory in today’s accelerated digital world. On display until the end of 2026.
Žilina Literary Festival: “Now Is the Right Time!”
The 23rd Žilina Literary Festival is under way at the New Synagogue. Until 20 September, the 3 day programme features Slovak and international authors, discussions, concerts, workshops, a children’s programme, a book market and a Sunday walk with special guests. This year’s theme: “Now Is the Right Time!”
Czechoslovak Cinema in Brazil
Cinemateca Capitólio in Porto Alegre is presenting Czechoslovak cinema for the third consecutive time. Literakino: Between the Words and Images of Czechoslovakia runs from 22 September to 11 October, featuring seven Slovak feature films and three short animated works. The programme includes Rosy Dreams, Brigand Jurko and The Sun in a Net, among other films.
Romani Music and Theatre in Košice
Traditional Romani music and dance will take centre stage at the Eastern Slovak Gallery in Košice on 25 and 26 September. The Bari Balvaj! festival is organised by the Romathan Theatre and is open to everyone. Founded in 1992, Romathan is Slovakia’s only theatre dedicated to the Roma minority, presenting performances in both Romani and Slovak.
