Summer Reading with RSI is a series featuring Slovak literature in translation. The Book of Bratislava, an anthology of contemporary Slovak fiction published by Comma Press, includes also The Last days of Stoka by Lucia Piussi, translated into English by Janet Livingstone.
Piussi describes some of her short stories as documentary literature. The Last Days of Stoka is based on real events at the cult independent Stoka Theatre and its original venue in downtown Bratislava, which no longer exists. In July 2026, Stoka was forced to move yet again, this time leaving its long-time home in Bratislava's iconic YMCA building. It is now based at the P*AKT cultural centre, where it shares the stage with other resident theatre companies.
