Slovak Poets Take the Stage at France’s Leading Poetry Fair
Today, Friday, 19 June, an anthology of Slovak poetry in French translation is being launched at the prestigious Marché de la Poésie poetry fair in Lyon, France. Slovak poets Mária Ferenčuhová and Peter Šulej, founder of the national poetry prize Zlatá vlna (Golden Wave), will represent Slovak literature at the event. The presentation will take place as part of a joint Czech-Slovak programme entitled poèmimport#7: Slovaquie & Tchéquie. The Slovak authors will share the stage with Czech poets Tereza Riedlbauchová and Jaromír Typlt.
Ten Years of Risk-Taking: KRAA! Festival Opens in Bratislava
On Friday, 19 June, the KRAA! Festival of Truly Contemporary Slovak Music gets underway in Bratislava. For the past ten years, the festival has showcased new Slovak experimental music projects. KRAA! aims to demonstrate that contemporary music is not only about seriousness, academic rigour or technological fascination. It is equally about curiosity, humour, experimentation, improvisation, risk-taking and the ability to hear sounds that might otherwise go unnoticed.
Urpín Explores the ‘Islands’ of Slovak Folk Culture
For those who prefer more traditional sounds, the folklore ensemble Urpín from Banská Bystrica will premiere its new production, *Ostrovy* — or *Islands* — on Saturday, 20 June. Founded in 1957, the ensemble is known for combining respect for folk traditions with a contemporary artistic approach.
