Coordinated by the Monuments Board of the Slovak Republic, the event aims to introduce the public to the work of archaeologists, showcase the results of fascinating research, and present professional archaeological methods.

History enthusiasts can participate in workshops, guided tours, lectures, and presentations held in museums, universities, castles, and châteaux across the country.

Some tips:

  • Bratislava: Visitors can uncover the secrets of radiocarbon and dendrochronological dating methods.

  • Limes Day in Bratislava-Rusovce: The event focuses on the Roman cultural heritage of Gerulata in Slovakia and Carnuntum in Austria, both part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Frontiers of the Roman Empire – The Danube Limes (Western Segment).”

  • Kostoľany pod Tribečom: Visitors will learn about the architectural development and archaeological research of the pre-Romanesque Church of St. George before continuing to the Early Iron Age hillfort of Veľký Lysec. Central European Folk Inspirations Come Alive in Dolná Krupá

On 15 June, the concert Pro Musica Nostra Tyrnaviensi will take place at the Dolná Krupá Château.

The programme features works by Slovak composers Eugen Suchoň and Ilja Zeljenka, Hungarian composer Béla Bartók, and Czech composer Leoš Janáček. Despite their different artistic backgrounds, all four composers drew inspiration from the folk traditions of Central Europe.

Janáček drew heavily on Moravian and Slovak folk music, often incorporating folk-like melodies, rhythms, and speech patterns into his works.

Bartók was one of the pioneers of ethnomusicology, collecting and studying thousands of folk songs from Hungary, Slovakia, Romania, and neighbouring regions.

Suchoň integrated Slovak folk elements into a modern classical language, helping to establish a distinctive Slovak national style.

Zeljenka frequently employed folk-inspired motifs, rhythms, and modal scales, transforming them through contemporary compositional techniques.
