For more than twenty years, an old railway station in the northern Slovak city of Žilina has been home to one of the country's best-known independent cultural centres. What began as a student initiative gradually transformed abandoned station spaces into theatres, galleries, workshops and community meeting points. In this feature, we explore how Stanica Žilina-Záriečie became far more than a cultural venue - and why people from Slovakia and abroad continue to keep it alive.
