In May 2026, the impact of changes to Slovak cultural funding schemes was discussed at the Open Culture! International Conference in Bratislava among other issues. Participants highlighted the need for systematic monitoring of artistic freedom across Europe. One of the conference’s key outcomes was the presentation of the proposed European Artistic Freedom Act. Its main objective is to protect the cultural sphere from political interference.
