Umelka Turns 100 During Night of Galleries and Museums

As part of the Night of Galleries and Museums on Saturday, 23 May, Bratislava’s Umelka Gallery will celebrate the 100th anniversary of its opening. The Functionalist building is listed as a cultural monument of the Slovak Republic.

The anniversary exhibition, titled 100-vka, is a collective mail-art project created by members of the Slovak Union of Visual Artists. Each artist submitted an original work incorporating the number 100, with all pieces delivered by post in tribute to the tradition of mail art. Organizers say the exhibition highlights creative exchange, collaboration and the strong artistic community connected to Umelka over the past century.
