Svetozár Stračina Grand Prix 2026

Svetozár Stračina Grand Prix 2026

The Svetozár Stračina Grand Prix is the only international competition organised by the public broadcaster now known as STVR, in cooperation with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

Slovak Radio, then part of Czechoslovak Radio, began presenting a showcase of folk music recordings from countries of the socialist bloc as early as 1970. At the time, the event was called the Prix de musique folklorique de Radio Bratislava—a name that remained the competition’s brand even after the political changes of 1989.

Those changes also opened the competition to recordings from around the world, including entries from Canada, Ireland, and Greece. Since 2003, the event has carried the name of the internationally renowned Slovak folk music arranger and composer Svetozár Stračina.
