According to UNESCO, World Poetry Day—established in 1999 and celebrated each year on March 21—recognises poetry as one of humanity’s most important forms of cultural and linguistic expression. It highlights poetry’s role in preserving oral traditions, encourages reading and writing across generations, and supports connections with other art forms such as theatre, dance, music, and visual arts. The day also aims to bring poetry more prominently into the public and media space.
A recent example of poetry crossing borders is What Now Is Now Is Now, a collection by Slovak poet Nóra Ružičková, now available in English translation by literary scholar Ivana Hostová.
