Slovak Co-Produced Documentary Triumphs in Berlin

The Czech-Slovak film If Pigeons Turned to Gold by Czech director Pepa Lubojacki has won the award for Best Documentary at the Berlin International Film Festival.

The documentary explores why the director’s brother and two cousins became homeless and struggled with addiction. Filmed largely on a mobile phone, Lubojacki’s deeply personal work examines the causes and consequences of addiction, blending diary-style footage with stylized recollections, AI-animated photographs, and graphic text interventions.
