Iconic Director Peter Mikulik Dies Aged 84

Prominent Slovak director and university professor Peter Mikulík passed away on Saturday at the age of 84. He was one of Slovakia’s most renowned theatre and television directors and a key figure in the history of the country’s theatrical production.

“A broad-minded and humble artist with a sensitive sense of humour,” is how Izabela Pažítková, communications manager of the Slovak National Theatre, described the late doyen.

Mikulík began his career in theatre in the 1960s and later became an acclaimed television director. One of his most popular works in former Czechoslovakia was the early 1980s television series Ktosi je za dverami (Someone Is at the Door), which featured the comedian duo Milan Lasica and Július Satinský. At the time, the duo had been banned from television by the communist regime for a decade.
