The prestigious Europa Nostra awards ceremony took place in Brussels on Monday (October 13), with an award being given to the Slovak Monuments Authority's Pro Monumenta project - dedicated to the preventive maintenance of monuments implemented since 2014.
Pro Monumenta is a national initiative supporting sustainable care of immovable heritage in Slovakia. Through inspections, training of artisans and public engagement, it demonstrates how early intervention and skilled maintenance can reduce costs and improve outcomes in heritage conservation.
The Europa Nostra Award winners were selected by a jury of eleven experts on the basis of applications evaluated by selection panels. A total of 251 eligible applications from organisations and individuals were submitted from 41 European countries. For the first time in twelve years, a Slovak institution dedicated to cultural heritage and its preservation was a recipient of the award. Branislav Reznik, the head of the preventive maintenance of monuments department, accepted the award.
"The Europa Nostra winners have once again demonstrated the sheer diversity and richness of Europe's cultural heritage. I warmly congratulate all the 2025 winners on their extraordinary achievements in protecting and promoting our common heritage," said Glenn Micallef, Commissioner for Intergenerational Justice, Youth, Culture and Sport.
