During his US trip, President Peter Pellegrini met Slovak compatriots at the 47th Slovak Heritage Festival in East Brunswick, New Jersey. The annual event, one of the largest Slovak festivals in the USA, draws thousands of visitors. Pellegrini praised the vitality of the Slovak diaspora, noting their role in preserving national identity, and thanked ministers of foreign affairs and culture for supporting the community and the festival.
The Slovak Heritage Festival is one of the oldest and most important events of the Slovak community to take place in the United States. It offers a rich cultural program, such as folklore performances, performances for children and traditional Slovak cuisine. This year it was opened with a holy mass, followed by a ceremonial opening and performances by Slovak and expat ensembles.
