Slovak Filmmaker Wins Student Academy Award

Slovak filmmaker Rebeka Bizubová has won a Student Academy Award in the Documentary category for her graduation film ‘Confession.’ Produced at the Film and Television Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (VŠMU), the film explores sexual harassment in the church, drawing on Bizubová’s own experiences.

‘Confession’ has already received several international awards, including the ‘Sun in a Net Award’ for Best Short Fiction Film and the ‘Blue Angel’ at the Art Film International Film Festival in Košice. Praised for its powerful visuals and emotional depth, the film tackles complex themes of trauma, family, and relationships.

The Student Oscar ceremony will take place on the 6th of October at the New York Film Festival. Student Academy Awards have launched the careers of many filmmakers, with past winners going on to compete for Oscars.
