At the age of 91, beloved actor, entertainer, screenwriter, musician, and presenter Oldo Hlaváček has passed away. According to a theater expert, his passing marks the end of a major era in the history of Slovak dramatic art, not only in theater, but also in television, film, and radio culture. Oldo Hlaváček was also the last member of a generation that began in theater in the 1950s.
Hlaváček made use of his comedy talent chiefly on radio and television. He appeared in plenty of entertainment programmes, including New Year's Eve shows. He skyrocketed in the 1970s with the television competition called "The Funniest One Wins", with famous actors telling jokes and their success being measured by the duration of applause by the audience. Together with star entertainer Ivan Krajíček they formed comic duo Hlaváček-Krajíček.
He was also popular with film and TV series directors. In 2004, Hlaváček was granted the Cross of the President of the Slovak Republic, Second Class for his extraordinary merits for the development of theatre, radio and film production.
