If you find yourself in Slovakia in the second half of August, you can choose from a wide range of cultural events to enjoy. Today, from the many things happening in Slovakia in the coming days, we’ve selected a few tips that caught our attention.
Bratislava Cultural Summer
The Bratislava Cultural Summer events continue in the capital. This Saturday, August 16, you can enjoy music right at Devín Castle, where DJ Vesnu will perform, and hypnotic beats will echo through the medieval walls. DJ Vesnu likes to swim between genres — from house to disco to techno — and in the past, audiences have seen him at festivals such as Pohoda and Sziget. On Sunday, August 17, families with children can join a guided tour of Bratislava’s historic center, where visitors will learn where the original arch of the stone bridge near Michael’s Gate is hidden, where the first Hungarian price list of medicines was kept, and why relics of saints were placed in a time capsule. And if you love vintage items, on Sunday, August 17, Františkánske Square will host a bazaar full of antiques, collectibles, curiosities, retro and vintage items, as well as vinyl records and accessories.

Záhrada Independent Cultural Centre – PiNKBUS
If you live in or near Banská Bystrica, you’ve probably heard of the Záhrada independent cultural center. If not, we recommend visiting — for example, on Friday, August 22. Záhrada will host a project called PiNKBUS: Slovenský a žiadny iný, which uses music and humor to connect people from across the opinion spectrum. PiNKBUS is a new platform that primarily showcases young queer artists and brings a fresh creative wave to the Czech and Slovak cultural scenes. The creators have succeeded in combining the underground queer scene with established professional artists, presenting a colorful mix of performers from all fields. It continues the tradition of Prague cabarets and variety shows, spiced up with a rising trend — drag queens.

Tabačka – Krstní Otcovia + Duplex Komplex
On Wednesday, August 20, another courtyard concert awaits you at Tabačka in Košice. This time, the bands Krstní Otcovia and Duplex Komplex will perform. Krstní Otcovia move between alternative rock and energetic post-punk, with music that often expands into hypnotic krautrock soundscapes, also featuring elements of electronics and experimentation. Duplex Komplex is a quirky band from Bratislava, combining complex instrumental passages with fast electronic drums and layers of reverb. Genre-wise, they navigate between post-punk, indie, trip-hop, and electronic music. Enjoy!
Artwife Festival
The second-to-last week of August will also belong to the feminist festival Artwife, taking place in Liptovský Mikuláš from August 20 to 23. The main aim of the festival is to bring feminist thinking to the public through various formats, especially contemporary art. The eighth edition of this multi-genre festival offers discussions, workshops, film screenings, theatre performances, and concerts. Performers will include singer Erika Rein, Irish rapper Celaviedmai, and Prague punk band Bibione.

Palackého Live – Urban Festival in Trenčín
On August 22, the northern section of Palackého Street in Trenčín will transform into a car-free zone with music, water features, and a relaxed atmosphere. The small urban festival Palackého Live aims to show that an area now used mainly for parking and transit can become a vibrant meeting place. “We want people to experience Palackého Street differently – not as a parking lot, but as a place to meet, relax, and have fun,” explained Stanislav Krajči, head of the Trenčín 2026 team. At the festival, visitors will enjoy a dance workshop, a discussion on the role of fountains in the city, screenings of the films Yuck! and Waves, and a concert by the band The Youniverse.
