Did you know that Slovak-language broadcasting can be heard in many countries around the world? Our colleague Ingrid Slaninková from the Slovak section of Radio Slovakia International set out to track down Slovak on the airwaves in all directions—and the result is a new series called Diaspora on the Airwaves.
Here in the English section, we will be bringing listeners episodes of this series throughout the summer, with a new premiere every Saturday.
Today, we're heading to Novi Sad, Serbia, home to the Slovak section of Radio Novi Sad. Its broadcasters began airing programs on November 29, 1949, marking the day when, alongside Serbo-Croatian, Hungarian, Romanian, and Rusyn, the Slovak language also made its way onto the airwaves of then-Tito’s Yugoslavia.
