The Matica Slovenská complex will host the International Diaspora Festival during the first two days of August, marking the central and largest event of the Year of Slovaks Abroad, featuring a diverse cultural program with discussions and concerts by popular Slovak artists. According to spokesperson Laura Hancová, the festival will showcase performances by seven representative ensembles from Serbia, France, and Hungary, with over 250 foreign participants including guests from Romania and Montenegro, bringing perspectives of life abroad and enriching the event with their traditions and experiences.
The program includes social meetings, expert discussions, educational sessions, sports, and arts, alongside family-friendly activities, food stalls, folk crafts, and exhibitions such as unique displays of traditional costumes and historical artifacts from Matica slovenská’s collections.
The festival opens on Friday, August 1, with a performance by the Chemlon Humenné Folklore Ensemble, followed by literary and social discussions exploring themes of literature, national identity, and social responsibility, while Saturday focuses mainly on diaspora ensembles from various European countries.
