Slovakia celebrates the Feast of Saints Cyril and Methodius annually on 5 July. On this occasion, Romana Grajcarová spoke with historian Matej Harvát from the Slovak Academy of Sciences not only about the two saints themselves, but also about the broader context of missionary work in the Middle Ages.
In the interview, the historian commented on the methods used by missionaries in the Middle Ages to spread the Christian faith. He discussed the connection between the saintly brothers and the Slavic languages, the political reasons behind why they were the ones sent to Great Moravia, and the origins of the Old Church Slavonic language and the Glagolitic script.
