The J.K. Mertz Guitar Festival hosts artists from Spain, Venezuela, Greece, Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. One of the oldest festivals of its kind in the world, it is taking place in the capital until June 26 as part of the Bratislava Cultural Summer.
The program features Baroque, Romantic, and contemporary music, lively Spanish rhythms, and premieres of works by contemporary Slovak composers. Later, the Slovak-Hungarian guitar duo Karol Samuelčík and András Csáki will make their debut in a concert on modern guitars, presenting a program based on transcriptions of keyboard music by Johann Sebastian Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
