Theatrum Instrumentorum

Theatrum Instrumentorum

The Festival Days of Early Music began on Friday, June 6, in Bratislava and Svätý Jur, with Music Centre Slovakia as the main organiser. Running through Sunday, June 15, the festival features five concerts, along with a range of English-friendly events tailored for those interested in historical performance and period music.

On June 14 and 15, acclaimed harpsichordist Ewald Demeyere will lead workshops and masterclasses at the Music Academy in Bratislava, open to professionals and students of the Academy alike.

That same weekend, don’t miss the Theatrum Instrumentorum exhibition at the Albrecht House, open daily from morning until late afternoon. This unique showcase offers a rare opportunity to see how Renaissance and Baroque instruments—such as flutes, traversos, violas, tenor cornetts, and more—are crafted and played today.

Instrument makers from Czechia, Poland, France, Austria, Hungary, Belgium, and Slovakia will be present, offering insights into their work.

The exhibition is not only fascinating in sound, but also visually captivating. Patrik Sabo, a Slovak maker of the cornetto, a woodwind instrument, elaborates on the exhibition:
