One of the greatest musical discoveries of the decade lands in Bratislava! The “Days of Early Music” Festival returns with rare instruments, bold interpretations, and the mysterious Leuven Chansonnier at its heart.
What do a centuries-old manuscript, a harpsichord virtuoso, and handcrafted period instruments have in common? They’re all taking center stage at this year’s festival Days of Early Music, launching Friday, June 6, in Bratislava. Organised by Music Centre Slovakia, the festival goes far beyond performance — it’s an invitation into the secrets of sound itself. Director Igor Valentovič introduces a lineup that includes a deep dive into one of the most exciting musicological finds of the last decade: the Leuven Chansonnier, presented in a lecture by Stef Coninx.
On June 14–15, Ewald Demeyere leads hands-on workshops and masterclasses in historical improvisation on the harpsichord, and throughout the week, an exhibition of instrument makers reveals the beauty (and obsession) behind building music’s past into the present.
Curious why people still craft 17th-century viols by hand? Tune in this Sunday, June 8, for an interview with Patrik Sabo, one of the makers keeping this rare art alive.
