Irena Brežná in London: On Immigration and Writing
The Platform for Linguistic and Epistemic Justice invites you to an evening with Irena Brežná, an award-winning Slovak-Swiss writer and essayist. The event will take place at UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies in London on June 11. A former war journalist and long-time émigré, Brežná will discuss her novel The Thankless Foreigner, which explores themes of immigration, integration, and resistance. The book received both the Swiss Literary Prize and Slovakia’s Dominik Tatarka Award.

On June 7, the first edition of the interdisciplinary concert and sound event úúú x pssst: KONTEXT (in the park) will take place in the area of Letecké opravovne Trenčín, a former aircraft repair site in western Slovakia. The event will feature sound artists from the UK, Czechia, Denmark, Greece, Portugal, and Slovakia, including Soundcamp Cooperative, URSONATA, Csilla Nagy, and Slávo Krekovič.
No barriers concert at the Slovak Philharmonic
On June 8, a barrier-free concert will be held at the Column Hall of the Slovak Philharmonic in Bratislava. The program includes Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 16 in F major, Bach’s The Art of Fugue, Shostakovich’s Two Pieces for String Quartet, selected songs by 1930s Czech composer Jaroslav Ježek, and Schumann’s The Reverie.
Moyzes Quartet plays Ursíny
On June 11 in Bratislava, the Moyzes Quartet will perform a tribute concert marking 30 years since the death of Dežo Ursíny. The program features string arrangements of his music from 1966 to 1994, spanning big beat, art rock, pop, and musical theatre. The concert also marks the 50th anniversary of the Moyzes Quartet.

Pezinok
On Saturday, June 7, Pezinok hosts the Festival pouličného umenia (Festival of Street Art), featuring jugglers, drummers, a puppet show, fire show, Latin dance, a samba school, drumming workshops, and aerial hoop performances. The band Morena will perform songs by Dominika Kavaschová and Andrea Bučko. The program includes the stilt theatre piece The Queen of Hearts.
Košice
On June 7, the Festival porozumenia (Festival of Mutual Understanding) will take place in Kasárne/Kulturpark, Košice. Organized by the Carpathian Foundation, the event promotes mutual understanding and overcoming differences. The program includes concerts by Puding Pani Elvisovej and Chiki Liki Tu-a, theatre and puppet performances, creative workshops, a book swap, an NGO zone, and a food zone. Admission is free.
Čachtice
The HaNahar Jewish Culture Festival opens on June 8 in Čachtice with an exhibition by Israeli artist Esther Shilo and the puppet show Elias Violin. Events continue through June 22 in Piešťany, Trenčín, Nové Mesto nad Váhom, and Beckov Castle. The festival also includes the Jidish Universe Biennale of Contemporary Jewish Art.
Žilina
The music festival Starry Nights begins on 13 June in Žilina and runs through 14 June. It will feature Slovak alternative acts like Fvck Kvlt and Vojtik, along with the internationally recognized group Širom.
