Dobrota Pucherová is a senior researcher at the Institute of World Literature at the Slovak Academy of Sciences. She is one of the editors of a new book being launched on Thursday, 5 June 2025, at the Slovak Embassy in London: René, or: A Young Man’s Adventures and Experiences.
This is the first novel written in an early form of the Slovak language. First published in 1783, it continues to be an important cultural reference, reflecting ongoing discussions about Slovak national identity.
René mládenca príhody a skúsenosti has now been translated into English for the first time. The English edition was published by Liverpool University Press as part of the Oxford University Studies in the Enlightenment series.
