The Bratislava Declaration for Artistic Freedom, formulated at an international conference organized by the Open Culture platform, is calling for the legal protection of artistic expression across the European Union. Signatories are urging the EU to create a European Act on Artistic Freedom to safeguard creativity, freedom of expression, and the independence of cultural institutions in member states.
The declaration follows concerns over threats to independent culture and artistic freedom in several EU countries. An international working group will be established to draft the European Act in collaboration with EU institutions.
